 With 26 years of nursery experience at Rowland’s, some money from a 401K and divine intervention, Albuquerque garden expert, and TV's "Garden Guy," Rick Hobson opened Jericho Nursery in October 2005. It was not your typical time of the year to start a garden center and nursery mind you.
Following several phone calls, there arrived a few racks full of pansies and kale to help dress up the newly acquired spot on Alameda. There was little more than a few pieces of Mexican pottery, some rustic furniture and a few yuccas to work with. The location also had a sizeable mess of old pallets, landscape debris and a leaky roof. But with help from friends, family and most importantly his faith in God, Rick turned the place into a thriving little nursery that began to quickly grow.
Today... the nursery has several dedicated full time employees that are the most knowledgeable and helpful garden folks in town. Jericho has also gained a reputation for having the best plant selection and sod availability in Albuquerque, as well as a fully stocked plant pharmacy; a lush greenhouse; fountains; soil amendments; tools; and much more.
This fall Jericho built a 70x40 shade structure to better house shade plants in the summer and tender plants in winter. And this spring look for big changes with much needed parking and a much easier way to shop trees and shrubs. Things continue to "grow" and improve, and are always fun and exciting at Jericho Nursery! Speaking of growing look at Ruger now!
