  • It JUST RAINED… and my plants look THIRSTY?

A customer made an observation today: "We just got a nice rain, but my plants are looking so THIRSTY! Why is that?"

Yes, we got a nice rain... but compared to the amount of water that plants NEED and SHOULD BE GETTING from your irrigation system (or your hose), it was literally a drop in the bucket. We get a little over 11 inches of rain per year in Albuquerque... and that's spread out over nearly sixty 'rainy' days... so the average rainfall is a scant fifth of an inch. It MIGHT be enough to refresh a lawn for a day or two, but those deeper rooted trees, shrubs, vegetables and bedding plants barely get a taste.

And while it was raining, we were probably unloading a truck! We got a big shipment of soils so our inventory is replenished, and of course lots more of your Mother's Day traditions, like hanging baskets and geraniums and more - there's a fresh slide show on our home page to prove it! We also got a semi-load of flagstone, including the unique "Raspberry Ice" color, and of course more bedding plants.

We do our best to provide products from local suppliers whenever we can, and we do want to call your attention to the tomatoes, peppers, and other plants from Growing Awareness, a program under the direction of East Central Ministries here in Albuquerque. All plants are pesticide free and grown according to organic principals, so try a few of their varieties this year!

We also received a good selection of raspberries, blackberries, and grapes:

600 ROSES are ON THE WAY!

Our second major shipment of Weeks Roses should be here by Thursday. We will do our best to send out a special alert when they get here.

As always, we appreciate your business, and REALLY appreciate your patience if you are shopping at a time of "busy-ness". Fortunately the rain did slow things down a bit for a day, and we had a chance to get our displays and walkways organized for an even better shopping experience. See you soon!
