Pick me, pick me!

Welcome to this week's Jericho Nursery newsletter, inspired by the thought-provoking ideas of Simon Sinek. Sinek’s concept of "Why Us?" challenges businesses to dig deep into what truly sets them apart. At Jericho Nursery, we asked ourselves the same question: with so many places to buy plants and flowers, why should you choose us? The answer lies in our unique offerings, exceptional service, and a passion for bringing you plants that thrive in our climate—plus a few surprises you won’t find anywhere else.

Winter Hardy Banana Trees in New Mexico

Hardy Bananas

A panhandler once struggled to reach her daily goals until Simon suggested a new message for her cardboard sign: “I know you can’t help everyone, but the next time you have the chance to pick someone, please pick me.” This simple shift in perspective doubled her daily earnings in just four hours. She could have kept going, but she stopped at her usual $20 goal. The lesson? It’s not about being the only choice—it’s about being the best choice when the moment arises.

At Jericho Nursery, we know you have options. But we believe that once you experience what we offer, you’ll see why your money is best spent here. Our "Why Us?" is rooted in the unique plants we carry, our unparalleled service, and our commitment to helping your garden flourish.

What sets Jericho Nursery apart? For starters, we have plants you won’t find just anywhere. Here’s a sneak peek at some of our standout offerings: * Hardy Bananas: We carry three varieties of hardy bananas, perfect for our climate. The one-gallon bananas are hardy to 10–20°F below zero (Zone 5), while others thrive in Zone 7. Though they die back to the ground in winter, they can grow up to 15 feet tall each year. Note: these are ornamental and don’t bear fruit, but they add a tropical flair to any garden. * Mediterranean and Windmill Palms: Our Mediterranean palms are surprisingly hardy and can reach 15 feet tall—taller than most clumping varieties. While Windmill palms are often touted as the hardier option, our experience shows Mediterranean palms hold up even better in our region. * Evergreen Clematis and More: Fresh shipments of evergreen clematis arrived this week, along with Easter lilies, avocados (yes, in our climate!), and adorable two-gallon lantana trees. We also have blue agave, evergreen plants, and a confetti lantana that changes colors—though it’s not hardy here, it’s a showstopper.
